September 22, 2009 - “Go Green, Live Green!” Green Roof Fundraiser

The St. Francis Girls’ Volleyball Team in conjunction with the Evergreen Club and Science department will be helping to raise awareness and promote environmental consciousness and Earth Day through their “Go Green and Live Green” fundraiser.

The two-part fundraiser involves a special home volleyball game against Marian Central Catholic on Monday October 19th, at 5:00pm & 6:00pm.  Also, “Go Green, Live Green” T-shirts and nylon Earth-saver “grocery” bags, which eliminate tons of annual plastic in landfills and destroys trees for paper bags, will be sold. All are invited to come out and help “Paint the Stands Green” by purchasing and wearing the “Go Green, Live Green” T-shirts for $5 and the Earth-saver bags for $10 or 2 for $15.  The volleyball game will also feature a split-the-pot drawing and a raffle for six gift baskets.  The Evergreen Club will be planning events to co-ordinate with April’s Earth Day.

The proceeds from this event will benefit the green roof on the soon-to-be-built science suite and learning resource center. The inspiration for this effort sprang from the passing of the beloved Mrs. Mary Feltes, the St. Francis Evergreen Club moderator and Science Department Chairperson. It is the school’s desire to keep her environmentally-conscious work alive.

ST. FRANCIS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SELECTED FOR ILLINOIS HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE FESTIVAL ALL STATE CAST

Wheaton, IL – July 1, 2009

Michael Ferraro, a senior from Lisle, was recently selected to represent St. Francis High School in the All State Cast of the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in January 2010.   Mike was one of fewer than 30 selected from over 300 students who auditioned for a role in the performance of the musical Urinetown. He will be perform in a main role as well as serve as Dance Captain.  Since 2001, St. Francis has had six students selected for such a high honor.  This is a testament to the excellent training that St. Francis students receive from the Theatre program.
