INCOMING FRESHMEN

Admissions policy…

Policy Mission:
St. Francis College Preparatory High School, within its resources, makes every possible effort to meet “the individual needs of young men and women on their path to spiritual, academic, physical and emotional development…. As a Catholic, college preparatory secondary school, St. Francis High School prepares students as a learning community to become critical thinkers and faith-filled, responsible adults.” The educational opportunities, therefore, are both curricula and co-curricula addressing the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional development of a young person.
As a result, the Admissions policies and procedures should be such that individuals seeking admission to St. Francis High School are able to demonstrate their potential for success in the curricula and co-curricula opportunities that comprise the secondary education.

General Policies:
St. Francis High School admits students of any race, color, sex, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.

St. Francis High School does not discriminate on the basis of race, physical disability, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational, policies, admission policies, scholarship, loan programs, curricula and co-curricula programs.

For the most part, an individual student’s participation in curricula and co-curricula elementary experiences can be quantified by assigning point values not only to specific numerical test scores related to percentages, but also to qualitative assessments related to elementary experiences. In addition, priority points can be assigned to indicate historical emphasis, present realities, and future directions.

The basic assumption is that success at the elementary level is a strong indication for potential success at the secondary level. The general weighting of points to items, when combined, should indicate that the individual could not only be successful academically at St. Francis High School, but also could actively contribute to the secondary education environment.

The development of an individual applicant’s “total points” is related to the specific guidelines for admissions and priority items listed below. This data will enable the Admission Committee not only to consider each applicant as an individual, but also to identify any unusual circumstances that may warrant additional information or an individual interview with the applicant and the family.Admission Considerations Demonstrate Potential for Success: Admission Criterion Points Students with demonstrated potential for success in the curricula and co-curricula educational programs will be admitted to St. Francis High School. Demonstrated potential for success is arrived at by considering a combination of the following items:

• Performance on the High School Entrance Exam

• Academic Achievement at the Elementary School Level

• Active Involvement in the Elementary School Life
The individual’s total point valuation is developed for achievement in each of the above areas based on information received from the elementary school, the High School Entrance Exam, and the applicant. A total Admission Criterion Point value is arrived at for each applicant.

Priority Items: Priority Points
Priority Points in an admission process reflect added value for historical emphasis, present realities, and future directions consistent with the mission of St. Francis High School.
Applicants with the demonstrated potential for success will be given Priority Points for each of the following:

• They have taken the High School Entrance Exam at St. Francis High School.

• They are a child of a St. Francis High School Graduate.

• They are a sibling of a current or former student at St. Francis High School.

• They have recently moved into the geographic area.

• They currently attend a Catholic Elementary School OR

• They currently attend a RE program.

Ranking for Admissions:
Applicants will be ranked (highest to lowest) according to the combined total of Admission Criterion Points and Priority Points.

Student Spaces Available:
The number of students in a freshman class is directly related to the number of available spaces in the facility and the target enrollment of the strategic plan. The number will be determined annually by the President. If you need more information, or have any questions regarding admissions, please contact Dan Tuskey at (630) 668-5800 ext. 1120.

TRANSFER STUDENTS - Incoming Freshmen | Transfer Students | Link to letter to Transfer Students

Admissions policy…
St. Francis High School admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school.

St. Francis does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarships, loan programs, nor its athletic and school-administered programs.

St. Francis admits non-Catholic students and/or students who have attended public school. We do, however, need to know that the student being considered fits our academic and disciplinary criteria.

We do accept transfer students based on their academic performance (you must have at least a “B” average) as well as a good attendance and discipline record. We do not accept Senior transfer students except those moving here from out of state.

1. The student must submit a brief letter of introduction to the Director of Recruiting. This letter must include the reason for, or circumstances surrounding the student‘s decision to seek admission at St. Francis.

2. The student must have at least a "B" average.

3. The parents or guardians are required to sign a letter of permission allowing St. Francis to obtain disciplinary information from the student's current high school. This letter must be sent or faxed directly to the Director of Recruiting.

4. The parents or guardian must request the student's unofficial transcript to be sent directly to the Director of Admissions. Or, if you have copies of report cards (from the past 2 years) you may submit those.

5. Please also submit copies of any standardized tests that the student has taken (like the Terra Nova, Explore, Illinois Goal Assessment Program, etc.) Many people don’t have copies of these, but they can be easily obtained by the student’s current school.

If you are interested in more information on transferring, please fill out the pre-admission form! Or call Dan Teskey at (630) 668-5800 ext. 1120 or email at dtuskey@sfhsnet.org.
