RICH JANOR, Camp Director:
Coach Janor is the Head Varsity Baseball coach at St. Francis. He directed the Spartans to the consecutive IHSA Regional Championships in 2004 and 2005. Coach Janor has been coaching baseball for nine years, and is in his fifth year at St. Francis. He has conducted countless clinics, camps and lessons for players of all ages. Coach Janor is an active member of American Baseball Coaches Association, the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association and the Wheatland Athletic Association Board of Directors.

The purpose of the camp is to reinforce proper fundamentals essential to the complete basketball player. Individual instruction is given to each player in the areas of shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, individual offense and defense. SHAWN HEALY, Camp Director:
Coach Healy will be entering his 11th season at St. Francis and his 3rd season as the Head Boys Basketball Coach. Coach Healy’s emphasis on the fundamentals led the Spartans to the 2006-2007 SCC conference Championship and overall record of 20-6. It was the first 20 win season for the Spartans since 1999. Coach Healy led the Spartans to a first ever victory over rival Wheaton-Warrenville South and the first victory in Benet’s old gym in over 30 years.

LESLIE FEY-DEHN, Camp Director
Coach Fey-Dehn will be entering her 5th season at St. Francis and her second season as the Head Girls Basketball Coach. Coach Dehn’s focus on defense and fundamentals led the Spartans to a 1st place finish in the Lisle Holiday Classic and a 2nd place finish in the Burlington Central Thanksgiving Tournament.

After completing 32 successful junior high competitions/clinics in the winter, we will again offer a cheerleading / dance summer camp for individuals and teams, for beginners and the more experienced. The purpose of this camp is to teach the skills and proper cheer and dance technique in the following areas: Sidelines, stunts, jumps, and turns. Awards are given at the end of the week.

Stephanie Bartuch, Camp Director
Coach Bartuch is the Head Varsity Cheerleading coach and has just finished her second year at St. Francis. She was a cheerleader for 10 years before coaching at St. Francis. The team cheers at all football and basketball games. They also compete in ICCA cheer competitions during the winter.
MARY PRATSCHER, Camp Director
Coach Pratscher has been the dance team coach for seven years. She has a minor in dance and has studied dance for 18 years. The team does a combination of jazz, pom, hip-hop and lyrical dances at home football and basketball games. The dance team competes during the winter season through TDI. Last season the team finished 6th in the state in AA Dance.

GREG PURNELL, Camp Director
Coach Purnell in entering his 2nd season as Head Football Coach at St. Francis. He began his career ar St. Joseph the Worker School (Dubuque, IA) while he was a student at Loras College. He also taught and coached at Newman
High School (Mason City, IA), Beckman High School (Dyersville, IA), Cuba City High School (Cuba City, WI), Hempstead High School (Dubuque, IA), Coe College (Cedar Rapids, IA) and Linn-Mar High School. During his 19 years at Linn-Mar (Cedar Rapids, IA), Coach Purnell was introduced into the Iowa Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was named the Iowa Football Coach of the Year in 1990, and won three Iowa State Football Championships in 1985, 1989, and 1990; as well as second place finishes in 1986 and 1994. Thirteen teams in his 19 years made 4A playoff births. Coach Purnell’s overall record is 147-50.

The purpose of this camp is to teach proper techniques used in developing the complete runner. Each athlete receives instruction in the following areas: proper warm-up, proper cool-down, effective anaerobic and aerobic workouts, off-season preparation, race strategies for both track and cross country and weight training.

Scott Nelson, Camp Director
Coach Nelson just completed his 20th season as the boys and girls cross country and boys and girls track and field coach. The Spartans have achieved tremendous success on both the individual and team levels. Coach Nelson coached 11 state champions with 4 state records, numerous all-state athletes, several state finalists and many more all-conference athletes. The Spartans have earned 37 conference titles, 15 regional titles and 13 sectional titles with 24 teams earning a spot in the state finals. The 2000 and 2001 Girls St. Francis Cross Country teams finished 2nd in the state meet. The 2004 St. Francis Boys Cross Country team finished 3rd in the State meet. Coach Nelson has been named "Coach of the Year" by the Daily Herald, Press Publications, Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association and Illinois Girls’ Coaches Association.

Tim Dailey, Camp Director
Coach Dailey just completed his 9th season with the Boys Soccer Team at St. Francis. In that time, the Varsity record is 127-75-17 including two Conference Titles, four Regional Titles, and numerous Invitational Tournament Championships. Coach Dailey has also led the Girls Soccer program since 2001. In that time, the Varsity Girls record is 94-18-14 with two Regional Championships. Coach Dailey has taught at St. Charles East H.S. for 30 years and is a member of the IHSSCA Hall of Fame and the St. Charles East Hall of Fame.

RALPH REMUS, Camp Director
Coach Remus is entering his 12th year coaching softball at St. Francis. A baseball player at Yale University, he has coached softball for twenty years. In addition to his work at St. Francis, he is currently on the Board of Directors of the St. Charles Comets Softball and coaches in their summer program. He will be assisted by his daughters who are both St. Francis graduates and college softball players.

Marcia Bussey, Camp Director
Coach Bussey is in her ninth year as Varsity coach for both the boys and girls tennis teams and is also a Mathematics teacher at St. Francis. She has 180 career wins at St. Francis, and coached state qualifying tennis players at eight different state final tournaments. She moved to Wheaton in 1999 after spending eight years in Jerusalem, Israel, teaching and playing tennis. Prior to that, she taught and coached in Minnesota. Coach Bussey is certified with the United States Professional Tennis Association as a developmental coach.

Mike Lynch, Camp Director
Coach Lynch is starting his tenth season as varsity boys volleyball coach at St. Francis. With Coach Lynch's direction, the 2007 varsity team ended the year with a record of 31-8. Highlights of the 2007 season included winning regionals and losing in the sectional final to the eventual State Champs in a tight 3 game match. Over the past nine years the varsity obtained a record of 224-74.

PEG KOPEC, Camp Director
With her 2007 team posting a 38-4 record and placing 2nd in the Class 3A State Championship, Coach Kopec completed her 33rd year as varsity volleyball coach. Her teams accomplishments include 25 regional championships, a third place finish in the 1988 “AA” State Tournament, Class “A” State Championships in 1989, 1991,1992, 1997, 2002, 2003 and 2004, Class “AA” State Championship in 2006, a second place finish in 2000 and 2007, a third place finish in 1994 and 1998, a fourth place finish in 1995 and an Elite 8 appearance in 1996. Coach Kopec is a member of the Illinois Girls Coaches Association and the National High School Coaches Association Halls of Fame, was the 2005 “U.S. High School Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year,” and the 2006 “National Co-Coach of the Year” by PrepVolleyball.com. Coach Kopec is the winningest coach in IHSA history, and finished the 2007 season with a career record of 958-219-2.

THEATER
St. Francis is offering its second annual summer show! Be a part of a full-scale production and hone your performing skills during the summer with professional musicians, directors, and choreographers (Limit 50 students). Performers must audition on May 27 or May 29 between 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Kuhn Cultural Arts Center at St. Francis High School. Prepare a one minute song of your choice. An accompanist will be provided.

CAROLYN BRADY RILEY is back for her ninth year as Director of Theatre for St. Francis High School. She taught Speech, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, and AP Music Theory and currently teaches Theater I and II. In 2004 St. Francis was invited to the Illinois High School Theatre Festival at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana to perform Seussical. They appeared again in 2007 with Into the Woods. Currently Mrs. Riley is in the music department at St. Xavier University. Recent music direction credits include Little Shop of Horrors and South Pacific for Moraine Valley College, Meet Me in St. Louis and Dear World at Circle Theatre and Quilters for Triton College. Mrs. Riley has a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a Minor in Theatre (Illinois State University) and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance with Honors (Roosevelt University)

NINA SCHROEDER earned her B.A. in K-12 Music Education from Albion College in 1998 and her M.Ed. from National-Louis University in 2003. She has been conducting children’s choirs, middle school choirs and high school choirs for 10 years. She has sung with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago and performed at community events throughout the Chicago area.

The beginning guitar camp is for students who have an interest at getting started on how to play the guitar. Students will receive instruction on playing chords, melodies, and general music. Students will have fun while learning to play popular songs that they recognize and will be given instruction on how to improve throughout the summer.

Mr. Mamminga is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he participated in the Symphonic Bands, the British Brass Band, the Basketball Band and was a four-year member and music section leader of the Marching Illini. He has teaching experience at several local high schools and is currently a private trumpet instructor.
BEN COLLINS is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with a degree in Music Education and Percussion. Mr. Collins is the former lead tenor/quad player for the Drum Corps International Champion Cavaliers, where he spent several summers traveling the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has extensive experience teaching percussion and marching percussion in top music programs in Champaign-Urbana and Indianapolis, IN.

The Jazz camp is for students who are interested in learning to play jazz standards, improve upon improvisation, and develop a solid sense of chord changes. Students will also receive instruction on how to listen to jazz greats, play solos with confidence, and learn how to transcribe solos. The camp will provide opportunities to perform in public.

INTERMEDIATE GUITAR
The intermediate guitar camp is aimed at students who have a good grasp of playing the guitar. Students will get an opportunity to play a wide variety of songs, riffs, melodies, and time honored classics. Students will also have opportunities to play and learn from each other and also gain great insight from a large amount of guitar repertoire to keep them busy practicing for the rest of the summer.

The adult guitar camp is aimed at parents who have an interest in music and learning the guitar. This camp is aimed at giving parents the knowledge and confidence to play the guitar through the use of chords, melodies, reading music, reading tablature, and playing popular music that they enjoy. By the end of camp, parents should feel at ease about what to practice, how to practice, and keep up with their kids when downloading tab from the internet. Guitars provided.

The purpose of this camp is for percussionists to work on their individual skills. The camp focuses on playing several cadences and techniques that are played throughout the camp. Students will perform at the Kane County Cougars game at the close of camp. (Game Tickets not included)

FUN WITH GRAMMAR
Intensive Grammar Review
This is the tenth year for this very successful grammar review class. This high energy two-week review provides a solid foundation for the material taught in the freshman English curriculum. Students will review the eight parts of speech, the functions of nouns, sentence syntax, and sentence diagramming. The class size is open to a maximum of 40 incoming freshmen.

JANET MARKS has twenty years of teaching experience at both the high school and junior high levels, is a graduate of Benedictine University with a degree in Literature, and is a reading specialist from National Louis University. She comes with a strong background in English, grammar, and a knowledge and understanding of the importance of a successful transition from junior high to high school. This is her sixth year with the grammar class. During the school year, Mrs. Marks teaches English II and English II Honors at St. Francis High School.
SUSAN FAIRHEAD has seven years of teaching experience with middle school, high school, honors, and standard English classes. She earned a B.A. in English from the University of Dayton and an M.S.Ed in language arts also from the University of Dayton. Her mastery of the freshman curriculum ensures that students taking grammar camp are well-prepared for their freshman year in English class. This is her second year teaching the summer grammar class. Ms. Fairhead teaches English I Honors and English II at St. Francis High School.

ALGEBRA OLYMPICS
This four-day workshop is just the ticket for students needing Algebra review before taking Advanced Algebra in the fall. Events will include “Mastering the Grid”, “Polynomial Pursuit”, “Speed Factoring”, and “Conquering Equations”. The competition will be fun and exciting. Prizes will be awarded daily. All will qualify for the Finals, but only one pair will take home the gold.
